The book begins by describing the colonial setting of Detroit with crystal waters, clinging vines and kingly trees. The author introduces readers to quaint Indian villages and outposts like Michilimackinac. The book describes the continuous contention between the Americans and England with traces of French influence in the colonies. The area was an important outpost during the American Revolution with vessels coming up the rivers continuously.
The author describes the important Indian history;wherein, Tecumseh and local Indian tribes sought to reclaim Indian hunting grounds from the colonialists.Later, the Stars and Stripes prevailed over the British and the American flag flew once again over Detroit.

A Little Girl in Old Detroit Amanda Minnie Douglas 9781492158127 Books Reviews
Nice story for anyone imagining life in Detroit in the late 1700's. Despite the age of the book it's easy to relate to the characters and the story is well told.
This is especially interesting for those of us who live in the southe-east Michigan area & know Detroit well. It is very hard to imagine woods, farms, American Indians, French & British here! And the fort! How different it must have been! It's a bit of a tough read with the 18th/19th Century wording but well worth your time.
